Stories told live in January 2024

A collage of some books you can find on Laura’s Books page.

I had thought of coming up with a New Year’s themed story for the first meeting of the Do Tell Story Swap of 2024, but nothing jelled, so as the evening drew closer I decided to tell a story from Aunt Truly’s Tales, an illustrated collection of original and traditional tales inspired by a character in my novel, The Kiminee Dream. Titled “The Frog Who Wouldn't Budge,” it’s one of the original stories I wrote for the little book.

Since storytelling is not the same as oral interpretation, the former being flexible as the story comes to life on the spot, and the latter adhering strictly to a written text, the version I told this month differs from the written story, but it’s still the same basic plot.

Here’s a link to a video of all the stories told at the swap. Mine’s close to the middle, but check out other stories, too. I was enthralled as I listened. Two stories feature frogs: http://www.dotellstoryswap.org.
